You can see test lists in the both the Experience Editor and in the Experience Optimization application. You use the test lists to browse lists of draft page tests, active tests, historical tests, suggested tests, and navigate to these tests.

In the Experience Editor, you can see the tests that you have created. The test lists are in the Optimization tab of the Experience Editor ribbon.

Users with access rights to the Experience Optimization application can see lists of tests created by all users. The test lists are in the Lists part of the menu.

Active tests

This is a list of active tests. The following information is available:

  • Page – the page name
  • Experiences – the number of experiences
  • Start date of the test – the date that the test was started
  • Days left – the number of days left to complete the test
  • Created by – the name of the user who created the test
  • Effect – the current effect of the test

Historical tests

This is a list of finished tests. The following information is available:

  • Page – the page name
  • Experiences – the number of experiences
  • The end date of the test – the date that the test ended
  • Test duration – the number of days that the test ran
  • Created by – the name of the user who created the test
  • Test score – the score that the test achieved.
  • Effect – the effect of the test

Suggested tests

This is a list of suggested tests. Sitecore continually analyzes the tests run on the website and the usage of the website in general, and uses this analysis to suggest new tests to run.

The following information is available (note that all scores are normalized between 0 and 100):

  • Page – the page that Sitecore suggests testing
  • Potential – shows which pages have a high potential for increasing the engagement for the users visiting the page
  • Impact – the expected impact of the test
  • Recommendation – a combination of potential and impact. This is the key score, and indicates how highly Sitecore recommends optimizing this page.

Configure where Sitecore looks for items to suggest tests for

The sitecore_suggested_text_index index stores the tests that Sitecore has suggested and displays them in this list. The default configuration defines a crawler that uses /sitecore/content as the root location in the content tree to start from when it populates this index.

This default configuration ensures that the crawler indexes all content. However, it can sometimes mean that additional content items that you are not interested in seeing in this list are included. For example, if Sitecore EXM is installed, the default location for the EXM items means that all these items are included in the index. This makes the list less useful.

Therefore, we recommend that you change the root location for the crawler to the root of the navigable site content. If you have multiple sites, you can add additional crawlers for each site.

For example, if you have this content structure:

/sitecore/content/site1/settings
/sitecore/content/site1/global content
/sitecore/content/site1/home
/sitecore/content/site2/settings
/sitecore/content/site2/home
/sitecore/content/exm

You want to limit the suggested tests to the navigable content, or the content below the two home items. In this situation, configure two crawlers like this:

  1. Navigate to the App_Config\Include folder.
  2. Open the Sitecore.ContentTesting.Lucene.IndexConfiguration.config file when using Lucene, or the Sitecore.ContentTesting.Solr.IndexConfiguration.config file when using Solr.
  3. Change the crawler configuration to this:
    <locations hint="list:AddCrawler">
      <crawler type="Sitecore.ContentTesting.ContentSearch.SpecificSitecoreItemCrawler, Sitecore.ContentTesting">
        <Database>master</Database>
          <!-- Limit this parameter to the root of the content of the site. -->
          <Root>/sitecore/content/site1/home</Root>
      </crawler>
      <crawler type="Sitecore.ContentTesting.ContentSearch.SpecificSitecoreItemCrawler, Sitecore.ContentTesting">
        <Database>master</Database>
          <!-- Limit this parameter to the root of the content of the site. -->
          <Root>/sitecore/content/site2/home</Root>
      </crawler>
    </locations>

Draft tests

This is a list of page tests that have been created and saved but have not been run yet.

The following information is available for each test:

  • Page – the name of the page
  • Experiences – the number of experiences
  • Created by – the name of the user who created the test
  • Last saved – the date when the test was last saved

This list is only available in the Experience Optimization application.
